About the campaign

The climate crisis and the fight against nature loss require major changes in society. Many of the changes are positive, but not all. These changes also affect different people differently.

If the price of transportation and energy rises or if one's lifestyle has to be changed, many people worry. Uncertainty can also be caused if changes in livelihoods threaten one's job.

However, change to a more ecologically sustainable society is inevitable, and benefits us all. That's why we want to start a discussion about how to implement the ecological transition so that it is perceived as fair.

Just transition now! -campaign presents principles for a just transition, which have been drawn up in cooperation with the trade union movement, organizations working on human rights, the environment, development or social issues, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland and agricultural producers. The principles have been signed by more than 80 Finnish organizations.

Finland will have parliamentary elections in spring 2023. The campaign encourages election candidates to commit to the just transition principles and to tell how they intend to ensure a just transition when elected. Business and human rights organization Finnwatch is responsible for coordinating the campaign.

Let's stop arguing about whether climate and nature loss measures should be taken. They have to be done. Let's move on to discussing how they can be made in a just manner.
